David Drew MP supporting our Colleges and Young People
Both our local colleges, SGSC and Cirencester, have approached me recently to discuss the funding crisis they face. Government funding to further education has been frozen for years, which has meant colleges have no choice but to cut staffing and increase class sizes.
The apprenticeship scheme simply isn’t working which means young people cannot go to college now to pursue this important training opportunity.
Until and unless the Government recognises what it has done to FE by starving it of funds and substantially increases of funding, then the situation will go from bad to worse.
Brexit may be dominating headlines – but the realities of this Government’s ineptitude are having real consequences.
I've signed a cross-party letter calling on the Chancellor to boost FE funding in his forthcoming spending review. We must support fair opportunities for young people, and invest to help them fulfil their potential.
We must #raisetherate.
