"Undermining democracy" - David Drew MP's statement on suspension of Parliament
28 August 2019
David Drew MP’s statement on Government’s decision to suspend Parliament:
“Boris Johnson's disgraceful move to suspend Parliament is a devastating undermining of democracy by someone who himself has little democratic legitimacy.
“If this is ‘taking back control’, it’s become 'control' by a small group of fanatics.
It’s outrageous; a Prime Minister does not, and should not, control parliament, he is accountable to it.
“I’m among the 200 or so MPs who have signed the Church House Declaration opposing any attempt to shut down parliament and calling on the Prime Minister to keep Parliament open in this most crucial time in our democracy and our country.
“I will do whatever it takes to stop the Government forcing through a disastrous No Deal and uphold democratic accountability.”
