Cuts to Sure Start have hit young families in rural England hard
I spoke during a debate on the Institute for Fiscal Studies report on the government's cuts to Sure Start children’s centres are having a direct impact particularly in rural areas of England where social isolation for young lower income families can have a devastating effects.
These impacts are far from isolated. They come on top earlier rounds of cuts to local public services and to vital NHS outreach staff like health visitors who have been a supportive lifeline to young families ensuring that they get the best possible start in life.
On top of cuts to the youth service this government is leaving young families stranded in areas the length and breadth of rural England. A health society for all of us relies on most of us getting the best start possible in the first 1000 days.
