Video: David Drew MP renews call for parliamentary debate on incinerator contracts
David Drew MP has again asked the Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom for an urgent debate about how councils handle big contracts, saying that it appeared there had been “impropriety” in the handling of information in Gloucestershire
Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday, Mr Drew, Labour MP for Stroud said:
“While kicking and screaming, Gloucestershire County Council has had dragged out of it the true cost of the incinerator to be imposed on my constituency, at Javelin Park.
“It now appears that there was some impropriety in the way in which the information was brought forward. Will the Leader of the House organise an urgent debate on how local authorities handle big contracts to ensure that proper checks and balances are in place?”
Andrea Leadsom MP replied that Mr Drew should now seek an urgent debate.
“The hon. Gentleman has raised this matter in the Chamber before, and I encourage him to seek an Adjournment debate so that he can find out from Ministers whether some rules may have been breached.”
Mr Drew has confirmed that he would continue to seek a parliamentary debate about the procedures followed by local authorities when handling big contracts.
