David Drew MP backs Liz Ashton for Berkeley Vale
Liz Ashton has been selected as Labour’s candidate for the Berkeley Vale by-election.
A former mayor of Berkeley, Liz has a vast experience of local politics, having campaigned hard on behalf of the town for decades. She has an excellent track record in standing up for local people and local services, fighting to keep banking services in the town, keeping the public toilets open and reducing the amount of agricultural vehicles using the High Street.
She represented Berkeley on the district council between 2012 and 2016.
In response to the news, David said…
Liz will be a great asset to Berkeley and a great addition to the Labour team at Stroud District Council. As someone who has previously served the town as a councillor, working tirelessly for the community, she has the experience needed to deal with the important issues ahead of us – such as housing development, and the impact of cuts on our services. I’m pleased to give her my total support because I know she will be a fantastic champion for people living and working in the Berkeley Vale.
Labour-led Stroud District Council continues to score high satisfaction ratings with local residents, at 80% at the end of 2018, with 94% of businesses questioned satisfied that the district is a place to do business.
The council’s focus on high quality services and value for money sees Stroud as one of the top four councils in the country for recycling and keeping waste out of landfill.
