Unused planning permissions should be given to those who will build homes we need
Yesterday in Parliament I spoke in a debate about supplying land for homes and raised the issue of developers gaining planning permission, but then failing to build homes. Here in Stroud rising house prices put homes out of reach for many people, but developers already have permission to build 5,000 homes in the district which have not been built.
Sites are being held back by developers, promoters or owners who then use the statutory 'viability assessment' to ditch commitments on social housing. The law must be changed and clarified so that communities know that what has been solemnly promised is delivered. And if they won't use the permissions as granted, they should lose them. #Housing #Homes
