Protect Our Protectors Campaign

Dear Constituent,

The Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Bill 2017-19 is an important Bill that David firmly stands behind. It is a Bill that has a cross-party backing and large amounts of national support. This legislation is an important measure to ensure that any staff serving on the frontlines or emergency services, get the support and protection they desperately need.

The Bill is sponsored by Chris Bryant MP and has come to stage after a series of brutal attacks toward emergency service staff throughout the country including toward nurses, doctors, prison officers, police officers, paramedics and firefighters. As a result, in the rise of attacks and assaults, this Bill considers harsher punishment and greater protection of staff. In cases where staff are assaulted, the Bill would ensure harsher sentences. In cases where a member of staff has been a victim of an attack that could involve a health risk, the assailant would be held accountable and made to deliver blood tests to ensure that any health risks are monitored.

Finally, David is continuously supporting the Bill’s progress in every way possible. David attended the Protect the Protectors Event on 18th of October where he had an opportunity to speak directly with workers from across the emergency services and show is support both for them and the Bill.

Thank you once again for contacting the office of David Drew MP.

Kind regards,

Team

 David Drew MP
